Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

Two of my favourite things.

Two of my favourite things, one made by mother nature the other by human hands, a golden cowrie shell atop a Shaker style box made from bird's eye maple.

I collected the Golden Cowrie from a coral reef in Fiji many, many  moons ago. The Golden Cowrie Lyncina aurantium quite a rare species and has been used as currency throughout the South Pacific. In the Fijis, they were worn by chiefs as a symbol of status and rank.

We bought the wooden  box from the gift shop in the old Shaker village at Canterbury in New Hampshire. You can read more about the Shakers in a  previous blip.
