Hochwasserschutz

The second sunny day (without rain) in a row - can that really be true?! The water along Isar river is slowly receding. Munich was completely spared from any damage from flooding, because the flood control measures worked very effectively. In particular, the Sylvensteinspeicher dam reservoir in the Bavarian Alps close to the Austrian border held back huge amounts of water and is now almost full - the water will be released over the next few day, hence the very slow retreat of the water. Another important flood prevention was the renaturation of large parts of the Isar within Munich's city limits, which gave the river more space to safely flood uninhabitated areas.

Another of those flood control measures is pictured today. I already blipped that place once before, with an average water level - rather different if you asked me.
