A little learning

This is the lane which featured in my blip for 27th July when a truck had tipped into the deep verge on the right that a warning sign now alerts drivers to. The lane leads to the Chobham Sewage Treatment Plant which, according to The Rivers Trust, discharged untreated sewage 48 times (394.57 hours) into the River Bourne-South. It is run by Thames Water which has a storm overflow permit for the Chobham Treatment Plant. The River Bourne is no more than a stream locally so I dread to think what such outflows do to its biodiversity. I suppose it is evidence  of learning from an incident that this Deep Verge warning sign has been put up but I'd much prefer that Thames Water, and all the other privatised water companies that so frequently pollute our seas and rivers, learnt that this practice is intolerable and should have been ended through investment in new plant, even if that did mean less net profits and lower dividend payments .
