The Eye of the Trained Observer

I am on my morning amble in the backyard, peering here and there with sleepy eyes, looking at colors and shapes and being surprised at how dewy everything is. Drops fall on my camera. And how intriguing to get right up in this poppy's face--I love the dancing stamens, and the bright pink and the lovely round pod. I take many many images, and I am interested in the settings on the camera, the whole depth of field thing, so many choices.

It is not until hours later when I am looking at the photos on the big screen that I see the grasshopper.


For them what wants to know: yesterday's diaphanous things are decaying iris petals...
