UndulaTOR

A view of an undulator insertion device at the Advanced Light Source in Berkeley, California. Insertion device = device to generate x-rays from a beam of electron that are moving at near the speed of light. An undulator has two rows of magnets, starting at the top and bottom left and disappearing into the centre right of this image, that for the electrons to oscillate, or undulate. This acceleration of the electrons causes them to emit electromagnetic radiation, here at x-ray wavelength, along the same direction as the electron beam.

Got lucky with the timing of my trip here this year. Today was the annual picnic of the lab, BBQ and beers in the nearby state park, and it was HOT today. Also, first ride in a Prius today.
