Disappointment

There was lots of sunshine again this morning so a big load of washing was done and hung out on the line to dry.  When I came back inside MrMacD was studying his iPad.  He’d opened the hedge trimmer we’d bought yesterday only to find it was an “attachment” not a “skin”, ie one that would fit onto a battery we already had.  We’d inadvertently bought something that needed other parts to go with it, but that wasn’t made clear on the packaging, and a suitable item wasn’t available in the Bunnings Timaru store.  After some discussion we came to the realisation that we’d be best buying a different brand from Mitre10 in Oamaru, even though that meant also buying a battery, as we didn’t want to have to travel over 80kms each way each time something went wrong or we wanted to buy an additional piece of equipment.  It wasn’t a problem in Auckland when the two stores were five minutes apart, but that’s not the case here.  So, tomorrow we’re going to travel back to Timaru to return the “attachment”.  Such a disappointment.

After our discussion I got to work on the bedside tables, giving them a light sanding with a very, very fine wire wool, then a good clean with a soft cloth before applying another coat of Danish oil.  I think they’ll need another coat or two of oil before I can wax them, but I’m pleased with how they’re looking so far.

After lunch MrMacD got out into the garden for the afternoon and I roasted nuts and seeds to use as “sprinkles” on porridge and as a garnish on vegetables.  Then I made granola, cracker biscuits, ginger biscuits and oat biscuits.  The oven didn’t know what had hit it!!  Unfortunately, that meant a major clean up of bowls and baking trays and saucepans after supper before we could relax.  And that also meant no time to go for a walk today.

The only photo I took today was of some fungi we found in the garden.
