The roadside monument to John Roy Stuart, otherwise known as Iain Ruadh Siubhart. He was born at Knock of Kincardine in 1700 and following an education that, as was common for gentleman of noble birth at the time , involved extensive travel on the Continent. He was in  France when the Stewart standard was raised at Glenfinnan on 19th August 1745  but returned to Scotland to join the Jacobite troops at Blair Atholl. The plaque (extra)gives an outline of his achievements in support of the cause. Following defeat at Culloden  he became a fugitive in Strathspey before escaping to France with Bonnie Prince Charlie where he died in 1752.
