Grumpy Old Man

Water, water everywhere!

We had a wet night and woke to the sound of heavy rain. It didn't stop us from our usual Saturday morning pursuits, however, so a visit to the pier for fish was followed by a session in the library. Our usual shortcut to Tesco was thwarted by the sight of cones and barriers - see first extra - and we had to go the long way round and go to Lidl instead.

Various pictures on Facebook made it clear that Oban was more or less cut off from the outside world, with roads north and south closed by floods and landslides and trains and buses cancelled. We also heard that Tesco was closed due to the flooding in the Lochavuillin car park, which of course once was Loch a vuillin! After lunch when the rain had abated slightly I dressed up in full waterproofs and walked down with the camera. Quite dramatic, with various kids - and older folk too - playing in the water and several White Van Men showing off by driving fast through the floods! The Black Lynn burn was raging, up to the height of the bridges in more than one place.

Unfortunately there were a few cars which had been left overnight in the car park - my second extra shows the most badly affected!  We're just so glad that we came home yesterday - or we'd still be on the other side of the Clyde!
