Gray Catbird

We went back to the Rail Trail near Station Road today, for the first time since returning from Scandinavia. It was a gorgeous summer afternoon, but not too many birds were showing themselves--this Gray Catbird (Dumetella carolinensis), was among several individuals. Usually they have a distinct spot of dark red or rufus under their rump, here there are only a few stripes that barely show up as reddish.

We saw the flicker peaking out, and a pair of distant kingbirds.
