Female and male

For the last week I’ve been keeping an eye on one of our local Norfolk Island Pines, as its fruiting cones developed. Late this afternoon the sky was clear and the light was good so I took these photos. The top one is the female cone, the lower is the male. Various websites say that male and female cones usually occur on different trees, although sometimes both will occur on the same tree. In this case, they are both on the same tree.
