The Pensioner

The bulb trench

A work party over the road. Our neighbourhood association over the years has sold hundreds of pounds worth of teatowels and when we started selling them (and making a profit) we said that the money was being raised to improve the local environment. Easily said. People pop up with bright ideas. Hanging baskets from the lampposts like they have in South Queensferry. Go on then, look into it, come back with costed proposals and some sort of feasibility study. That’ll be right.
So eventually we decide we’ll do some planting. And as a bonus we apply to the council for some matching funds and get a grand. It’s bizarre - the council is totally strapped but has all these little pots of money if you press the right buttons. Now we have an even bigger headache. Unless we buy tons and tons of bulbs…. *

Later, yet another film. They’re coming thick and fast at the moment. Saltburn with that strange little Keoghan character and Rosamund Pike. The cinema was full. I mean really full. It’s a most enjoyable and amusing film with some sharp dialogue - though I see the critics are pretty down on it. A bit passé for them. Me? I think it’s a solid 8/10. Just for that ending alone.

* we’ve kept aside £700 for perennials to be planted out next spring.
