Dutch tales

Painter's couple Bisschop

In the Frisian museum I saw an exhibition about Christoffel Bisschop (1828-1904) and his English wife Kate Bisschop-Swift (1834-1928). They lived in Scheveningen. As they didn't like their modern house they had it decorated with old stuff which they bought all over Europe. Christoffel even had a window replaced by an old window with little panes.

They bestowed all their furniture and most of their paintings to the Frisian museum in Leeuwarden where Christoffel was born.

They moved in higher circles, were often guests at the Dutch royals.

An interesting exhibition.
