Kelvingrove Church

A beautiful morning in Glasgow. As I was over near Kelvingrove I decided to take some photographs of the former Kelvingrove Church, which in 1981 became the studios of Cava Sound.

Located to the south of Kelvingrove Park this former church was designed by the architect James Sellars, 1879-1880. The church has a classical frontage with a tetrastyle (four ionic columns) portico with an unadorned pediment on top of the columns. Above the facade a large stone lantern with corinthian columns and a lead covered dome is centrally sited.

Cava Soound began in 1974 and since then have recorded some of the biggest names on the UK and international music scene including Belle & Sebastian, Paolo Nutini, Robbie Williams and Take That, Snow Patrol, Avril Lavigne, The Black Eyed Peas, Deacon Blue, Texas, Jessie J, The Proclaimers, Rage Against The Machine, Runrig, Travis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Byrne, Mogwai, Eddi Reader, John Martyn and The Fall. The studio hosts a Neve VR Legend mixing console and is the only studio in Scotland to have PrismSound audio converters.

In 1981 Cava Sound moved to the basement of the former Kelvingrove Church. This building combines my two loves, great architecture and great music.
