Sgwarnog: In the Field

Skippers

Continuing yesterday's theme of love on Tyneside, I found these two Large Skippers snuggling up in the undergrowth at the edge of Northumbria University's Coach Lane campus.

I know, I should have looked away.

I know, I shouldn't anthropomorphise.

I took a slight detour through Rising Sun Country Park on my way back to the Metro, once I'd navigated the maze of paths crossing the Newcastle United Academy and training complex which have clearly been built since my map was published. The sun came out, and there were more Large Skippers, tens of Green-veined White and a solitary Speckled Wood.

Back home on the moor, no sign of our own Large Skippers but the Small Heaths have finally emerged.
