Art Outing

Decided we needed an outing so went to the Seattle Art Museum for an art fix. …we knew it’d be crowded but not that crowded!…so we skipped the line for the main exhibition  (We’ll go back in Jan) but enjoyed lots of other art, including the new Alexander Calders that were given to the museum this year by a wealthy Seattle collector couple,, who had collected 45 works  (Calder reportedly has made 22,000 works of art!!) of all sorts…Mobiles, stabiles, lithographs.   Of course I liked these elephants.  One of Calders first pieces was a circus that moved…something I remember from many years ago at the Whitney museum in NYC.  His animals are always wonderful. In the extra are a few others including some northwest art (that gallery not crowded today -- a contemporary piece and an old wonderful cane) and an Australian aboriginal exhibit and other local contemporary.   The good seafood restaurant there was also too full so we stopped on the way home for fresh oysters and great seafood chowder not far from us on Lake Union. (not crowded!)    Very nice day.

If you want to know more about Calder, click on the exhibit in the SAM link..there's a good little summary.
