Common Enchantments

Poinsettia flowers

I bought a poinsettia but had not taken a photo of it since I had the anniversary blooms and the camellias but we can’t have too many flower photos. This thing has gorgeous red leaves but I was really liking the “flower” part. So tiny and gets overlooked by the showy leaves.

Did you know Joel Poinsett brought the plant from Mexico and it was named after him. He also was involved with the start of the Smithsonian which was originally named the National Institute for the Promotion of Science and the Useful Arts but was also a spy, diplomat and legislator. Interesting figure in the US history. He was born in Charleston and is buried at the Statesburg, South Carolina in the graveyard of the Church of the Holy Cross which is a beautiful church built in 1850.

Friday flowers and a brief history lesson.

It is blowing really cold air outside so I have been snuggled in with a book and intermittent house work. Hoping to join a few hiking friends tomorrow but nothing set yet. Found a new trail that might work.

Have a good weekend Blippers!
