Sunflowers

We walked down to Mitre10 to meet a friend for coffee at 9am and had a long chat covering all sorts of topics, which was very interesting.  After we’d walked back home I hung out the washing before we drove back into town to buy some warratahs to make a fruit cage.  Unfortunately, Farmlands didn’t have the size we needed and they’d have to be on special order, so we were sent to … guess where … Mitre10, which didn’t have any either.  They’ve changed their supplier and won’t be getting any more.  They suggested treated wooden posts, so we’ve bought some of those.

The day started misty and damp, gradually changed to sunshine, then went back to dark and overcast with some rain.  It’s not looking good for New Year’s Eve tomorrow.

MrMacD spent the afternoon making roasted cauliflower and blue cheese soup, as well as mushroom soup.  The cauliflowers were out of the garden and he used the mushroom “pâté” I’d made for Christmas Day as the basis for the mushroom soup.  Guess who got to do the cleaning up!  It is nice, though, to have soup in the freezer for when the weather gets cold.

MrMacD planted sunflower seeds this year and they’re now flowering and providing cheerful colour at the bottom of the garden, especially when it’s grey and overcast.  Some are really large, like the one in the blip.
