Fifty Shades of Grey

A grey day, but a day seemingly in limbo before the predicted rain and high winds of the weekend.
There was a lack of clarity in the views, with a light sea mist hanging low over the whole land. It was mild and still, with the lochs like mirrors and the smoke from any cottage fires rising straight up from the chimneys.

We went on a circular route march walk around the Ness to Warebeth Beach and back through the town. At the speed we were going, my taking blips and having to run to catch up with His Lordship, I felt at the end as though I had done a workout in the gym. However, it was worth it just to see the cloud formations being made and broken over the Hoy Mountains.

We had thought to visit The Ring of Brodgar, but it seemed the whole world and his wife were clustered there, hugging the stones for the summer solstice.
In previous years, we have always been spoilt by having them all to ourselves, so we gave them a miss and went to Birsay, to have lunch and collect some bere meal from the mill before heading home via the east coast road through Evie

Tonight, we are putting on our glad rags to take an Orcadian friend out to dinner. We will get all the local gossip for sure.
