Old County Border

As many of you know, Todmorden is a 'border town' and, up to 1888, the border between Lancashire and Yorkshire went straight through the centre of the town and straight through the centre of the Town Hall.
The rivers defining the border were Walsden Water and the River Calder.
This is Walsden Water and, as you can see, it goes underneath Todmorden Town Hall.....
In 1888 it was decided something had to be done and the whole of Todmorden was absorbed into Yorkshire.
