History

A lazy day, but I felt the need for fresh air & a change of scene for the afternoon mutt walk.
This is Widnes Dock on Spike island. It was built in 1833 as part of an artificial island & was the first rail-to-ship dock in the world.
The dock closed in the 1930s and it was filled in. Thankfully, in 1975, this part of the original dock was dug out to a depth of around 3 feet, exposing part of the old dock walls.
Nice to still have a reminder of the history.
