Within Tent

Over to the boat to retrieve one of the batteries and then much chinwaggery around the place - the big tent is coming together so a large number of guys (always men) were standing about while one or two actually did some work. It’s what we do. Old Pete turned up in his car with his packed lunch - not to do any work on his boat, just to have a sit in the Bell Block and catch up with people. No doubt he’d been chased out the house.
It would be a meagre lunch I’m sure. Pete is notoriously frugal when it comes to dishing out the rations. Once I was away with him for days heading to Orkney and George made lunch. Pete took one bite of his ham salad roll and then looked at it aghast, opening it up. “Two slices of ham!” he spluttered, outraged.
Later, after a couple of boiled eggs and a session of gardening we went off to watch One Life with Anthony Hopkins. Predictable TV type production ie they’ve hired an old station, got a steam train and the whole wardrobe department has been emptied out. Have said that, they know how to push the button to get gushy eyes. I wasn’t immune. Cynical bastards.
