Every year (for the last two years) Bedford Esquires has held a celebration for David Bowie's birthday on the Sunday closest to his actual birthday (8th January). The celebration is a jam session including loads of musicians performing covers of David Bowie songs. The whole event is spectacularly well organised to ensure that the same song is never performed twice by different artists, and this evening the live music event lasted for four hours.
Yes of course there were some gaps while the percussion apparatus was reconfigured for a left-handed drummer. And equivalent courtesies.
I was mesmerised by the band provided by Living It Up (main image) who received a standing ovation. The lead vocalist was singing the lyrics signed to him in real time, the percussionist was following hand claps and the lead guitar was also receiving similar visual guidance. I was in tears (naturally enough).
1st extra is Irene, who learned yesterday she is cancer free. Another standing ovation
When you witness this level of kindness, help, encouragement, but what you hear on the radio is bombings and stabbings, you begin to wonder which side of humanity is real.
