brookside

A day of market wandering, wine tasting and lunch with L.

The Bickley and Carmel Valleys, literally just in the hills backyard, have long been orchard country and much to the surprise of many, vineyard country too.
Brookside is set in five acres growing cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay and now petit verdot a French visitor from Bordeaux happily esconced in the valley.
Willows line the brook as do pomegranates, pears and quinces, and special spots for sitting and tasting are tucked away in the gardens.

Lunch was a feast: jerusalem artichoke soup, scallops, ocean trout and duck confit helped along with a bottle of the petit verdot. And yes...greedy guts that we are... pudding was involved too!

On the way home it started to rain and still it rains. Must wash the windows more often!
