Seaton's Tower

Smeaton's Tower on Plymouth Hoe was the third lighthouse to be built on the Eddystone Reef, 12 miles off Plymouth. It was completeted and began operation in October 1759. It ceased operation in February 1882 following erosion of the underlying rocks, and was replaced by a new lighthouse. Smeaton's tower was then dismantled and rebuilt on Plymouth Hoe as a monument to Smeaton's genious and  in commemoration of it's role and accomplished civil engineering.
