The colours of summer...

Even on a grey, blustery day there were plenty of banded demoiselles fluttering along the river - many more than last year. This species wears my favourite colours - the male sports a beautiful deep metallic turquoise, the female an equally stunning metallic green. This male was hiding low among the grasses, perching on the flower-head of a meadow vetchling. It was quite a challenge to get a clear view through the grass stems, particularly as they were blowing to and fro.
