Lascaris tunnel shrine

We came across this shrine when walking through the Lascaris tunnel in Valletta. This was behind a grill but I could still stick my hand through for a blip. It doesn't seem like it is cleaned up often, but there seems to be some relatively recent commemorations. We reckon it must be a neighbourhood shrine. Strange that it is built into a tunnel though.
