CNY visiting

The fireworks continued till 1.30 a.m, celebrating the Hokkien Day of Deliverance.  Wen Hui's family have Hokkien connections just after their wedding banquet in 2013 we celebrated this but not now. The fireworks wee not necessarily close by but reverberating round the high rise.  The folk down below in the low rise had their huge bonfire burning in the car park area till late, I assume burning the paper gold ingots.  But it was very noisy.

I woke up about 8 and after breakfast went to the pool, which unlike HK's pool in in shade.  I did a good half hour swimming before other people arrived.  Came back upstairs and had a bath!

The main event today was to visit one of WH's aunts, her father's younger sister.  I have been meeting this woman for nearly 13 years and I only found out her name a couple of weeks ago.  We went to her new apartment in Bangsar South, really Kerinchi but Bangsar sounds more expensive.  Her husband, son, brother, niece and her boyfriend were there too (I don't know any of their names, except the niece, WH's cousin, is also a Wen) and Han, the elder sister.  There was another brother who died a few years ago and there is a slightly 'mad' widow. She was there at the Reunion Dinner before CNY but not today.

After snacks and chat, mainly in Cantonese but with some English thrown in for my benefit we went across the way to a Japanese restaurant for lunch. Siong and her husband both speak English as does Han. The younger ones never spoke to me at all. I've spent quite a lot of time with Siong and Han over the years in the house in Cheras and they have always been very kind to me. Today was no different.

After lunch it was pool time, for the girls anyway  This is a new development, 3 40 storey blocks with underground parking.  It's new and has a lot of amenities:  BBQ, mini golf, 2 heated indoor pools, 2 outdoor pools, hot and cold spa pools, kids' pool with water jets and fountains, multi purpose hall, pool pavilion, mah jong lounge, library/study.  The apartment itself was typical.  Very small kitchen area and interestingly internal CCTV.  There was also a fish tank which the girls loved.  They spent time in each pool and it was well after 4 when we left, in a thunderstorm.

#1 son didn't come with us.  He was suffering for sunburn after his mammoth 6 hours in the pool yesterday, plus he doesn't really enjoy these family get togethers.  It's difficult when you don't speak the language.

After dinner we watched a programme about the new Merdeka 118, the world's second tallest building that no-one knows about and  '8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown' and then I came home to see more fireworks.
