Riffing On A Theme. Leitz Summicron 50mm DR

This is the fourth in a series of different marking gauges in my tool collection.  As I mentioned yesterday, Veritas' inventive toolmakers like to riff on a concept.  This is a diminutive marking gauge which can again be used with a wheel cutter to incise the lines. Or, with a separate stem can be used with a very sharp blade to, say, slice thin strips of veneer. Or, there is an interchangeable hardened pin scribe which fits into the stem so it can work just like the old wooden gauges.  Because of its tiny size, this is my favorite for marking the shoulders of joints across the wood grain with the cutting wheel.
