The Edge of the Wold

On patrol

Here is George on patrol looking for any crumbs or tasty morsels that may have fallen to the floor. We are dog-sitting when George’s people are having a weekend away in Norfolk. As a Norfolk Terrier, George is disappointed that he wasn’t given the chance to explore the county from which his ancestors originated. He has taken it philosophically, he has had three separate kitchen floors to hoover today, and he has enjoyed several circuits of the village in between the showers.

His temporary minders give him plenty of the things he craves most - food, strokes, food, walks, and more strokes. He’s even allowed to sit next to them, or better on them, on the settee. However, he felt dejected and rejected last night when they went to bed and left him in the kitchen. He tried his most urgent howling, but they ignored it, and in the end he decided to conserve his energy for more walks in the morning.

He was disappointed that they didn’t take him to the tip, nor on their expedition to Pickering to pick up an apple tree, but they were back in good time to give him his dinner, so he forgave them. He was also pleased to make the acquaintance of two painters who arrived at 0730 this morning to start painting the new extension to the temporary minders’ house.

He was unable to climb the ladder to look at the new chimney on the old house that was almost finished on Friday, though he was assured it looks amazing and once it has its pots on, will allow the stove to be used to warm the house up again. It was another deluge on Friday afternoon that stopped work on the roof.

All in all, George is having an interesting few days, enjoying varied activities and eating lots of food. He hasn’t complained too much about missing his people.
