Chrysochus cobaltinus

Blue Milkweed Beetle on (go figure) Showy Milkweed. This cobalt-colored masterpiece spends its life on milkweed species, consuming the leaves and laying its eggs upon it so that its larvae may do the same thing. I managed another bug-tastic hike around Mirror Lake despite the heat today; this one I found right outside my front door though, in Stoneman Meadow at Curry Village. A new one for me!
