Hafod (Haven)

We went for a lovely walk in the Hafod Estate, nestled in the Ystwyth Valley, near Devil's Bridge. Jointly managed by the National Trust and Natural Resource Wales, it is beautifully landscaped woodland with well marked walks boasting picturesque views of waterfalls , the Ystwyth river and the surrounding wild hills. It was originally laid out in the late 18th Century and was a popular destination for the gentry holidaying in Aberystwyth.
The original Georgian mansion was declared unoccupied in 1946 and was demolished 10 years later to leave just some rubble and the old barn. The main is the view looking down the Ystwyth valley. The extras are one of the many waterfalls you encounter on the estate and a Greek theatre mask fountain in the garden wall of the demolished mansion.
