One Of Those Nights

What a day/evening.

I finished making and mounting a bird (not photographed yet) in the morning.
In the afternoon we drove to get the tram into Edinburgh. The plan was to have a walk about. However, 'walking was not easy and certainly not enjoyable - the gale was making it hard to breath, let alone walk and was turning through 180 degrees every few seconds. So we went for a drink in Hotel Chocolate to kill some time before going for our special deal meal in Cadiz (in George Street - not Spain). Absolutely superb...... the food, the ambience and the service. 4 courses and a cocktail. When we had finished the waiter came with the 'bill'. He knelt down and was most apologetic because although we had paid in advance there was a service charge - which he was at great pains to explain that it was not compulsory. We knew this already and had it all ready.so he was handed it and off he went - to return very shortly after with our 'change'. As soon as he arrived beside me I asked what he was doing and not to be silly and take it away. The service we had had was so good that there was no way they were going to get the minimum.

It was then a slow wander up to the Usher Hall - taking some pictures on the.
I had deliberately taken the infra red camera with wide-angle lens as the weather was of suitable conditions (sky wise anyway) and it would be something a bit different. Also I wasn't expecting to take any pictures in the concert we were going to see so it was fit into my jacket pocket.

When we eventually got into the building (they were late in opening the doors) we went and had a drink.
We knew we were in row B but when we got into the auditorium we found that the seats were at the end of the row with nobody in front of us as row A was shorter. A great view ....with legroom (a luxury for somebody of 6'4").
The official photographer based himself almost in front of us and we got talking. He has photographed Elio Pace (who we had come to see doing the Billy Joel Songbook ..... look him up) for a number of years and has carte blanche regarding pictures - none of the '2 songs only from the same spot' that a lot of performers stipulate. He also said that
he doesn't object to people in the audience taking pictures ............ Damn ! I should have brought the short zoom lens!
No matter.

It was a brilliant show.

The man in a consummate and brilliant performer - as were the band who were very much a part of the show and not just noise makers in the shadows.
There wasn't a person in the audience who didn't feel that there personal eye to eye contact with him and talk about joining in! ...... I think everyone was singing along at towards the end there were dozens of people up and dancing in the aisles.
I took a number of pictures - not great - but good memory shots.

After the  2 1/2 hour show (value for money indeed) we made it to the tram stop as a tram arrived and were the last two to make it on so there was no waiting while the hoards from the concert joining with the pub leavers.

There are pictures from the day Here
