Des Res

Wooden residence with outlook over pond. Suit agile bats looking for dry accommodation, safe from predators but with a plentiful supply of insects during the summer months.

Had to go into Diss this afternoon so went for a walk around the town, adding in a visit to Quaker Wood on the NW edge of the town. The wood is a community project, started in 2006 with the formation of a tree nursery and put into place a couple of years later when they managed to purchase an area of disused meadow from the Quaker Society. I'd been there briefly once before, during an informal orienteering event, so have been wanting to go back and have a proper look. There's quite a variety of youngish native trees, plus some established ones which would have been there originally. The Blip shows the southern edge of the pond, with marsh marigolds in flower and irises to follow on soon (and with butterbur with seedheads just out of the frame, to the left). A rowan seems to have sown itself into the old trunk which straddles the pond. It'll be good to visit again, to see the progress of the scheme.
