Swaying

I heard the distinctive call of a northern cardinal and, despite his bright colour, found him hard to spot at first.

My first shots against a slate grey sky were compromised by branches blowing about in the wind. He was quite high up and swaying to and fro as the tree bent.

Fortunately, he remained there long enough that the sun came out briefly, turning the sky blue, enabling me to get this shot with reasonable sharpness.

Pity about the foreground branch which is a bit distracting, but my options were limited.
