What Remains

Half in the water, a tree stump is all that remains of a tree, long felled, that grew out of the bank. Sun, clouds and blue sky pushed me towards trying black and white, with clouds providing interest in the sky.

Working in B&W allows for the blues to be darkened adding more drama in the sky. Added to that, the extreme distortion of an ultra wide lens emphasised the root system which, being bleached white, stands out against the dark water.

It was rather precarious, holding the camera one handed out over the water, lcd screen open for framing purposes. But I had a lot of fun trying different angles to see what worked, and looking for suitable subjects.
