Otley Run

Sometimes the best laid plans go pear shaped.
I had booked a table at Stuzzi in Harrogate for lunch.
Elaine and l caught the bus to Otley did a bit of shopping then we went to catch the hourly bus to Harrogate but it never came. I had forgotten it was Harrogate Flower Show today and the roads lead to it are a place to avoid unless you are attending the event.
So l phoned the restaurant to cancel our table and we got on a bus already in the bus station into Leeds .

We took a chance and got a walk in spot at Flat Iron, Elaine’s first visit and she loved as much as me.
Returned a dress to M&S then we shopped in the Victorian Quarter and l bought an olive green trench coat and Elain bought a dress, both from John Lewis, good to see it busy and there were queues into the changing rooms and to pay.

Got the bus home and were entertained by the ‘Otley Run’ a tradition that is massive in Leeds.
Originally started in Otley and ending in Leeds , groups ( usually students)
had to walk the route of 11.5 miles calling in at six venues and having a drink in each.
Now it’s seen as a right of passage for undergraduates, the route is still on Otley Road but the run is 2.5 miles and includes 17 pubs and bars!
It’s got quite organised over the years and now you have to book a slot at each place you visit.
Through the academic year hundreds do it in fancy dress and every Saturday you see the parade which starts at Woodies in Far Headingley and finishes at Leeds at The Dry Dock.
Should imagine if you know a student who has studied in Leeds they will have done it or know someone who has.
Leeds has one of the highest student populations in the country with around 70,000 at the various universities in the city.
We had lots of entertainment as we went home through student land this afternoon.
Always pleased my offspring studied outside of Leeds:-))
