Above And Beyond...

The Romans

Early afternoon we visited our long time friends in Newport (South Wales, UK) for a long overdue catch-up.

On the way home we drove through Caerleon, nr Newport and stopped at the Roman Ampitheatre (90AD) next to the River Usk. Caerleon (Isca) was once one of the three biggest Roman Fotresses in Britain alongside Chester (Deva) and York (Eboracum)!

The ampitheatre was able to seat 6,000 people who would gather to watch blood thirsty displays involving gladiators and animals! The fortress was occupied until 370AD.
