Chapel Stile

The clans are gathering, and excitement is mounting for tomorrow.

While Smithers had a rest this afternoon I took the opportunity to take the cameras out for a walk from Elterwater to Chapel Stile, which is another pretty village near the estate.

The weather was grey and dull, so there wasn’t a lot of colour for photography, but the mossy dry stone walls and Langdale slate have an innate beauty of their own and they always fill me with delight.

I wandered around the gravestones surrounding the tiny Holy Trinity Church, Chapel Stile, and took a shot of the gravestone of Rev. Owen Lloyd, one time incumbent of the church. This particular gravestone is notable for having a poem on it, specially written by William Wordsworth, as Owen Lloyd was Wordsworth's brother Christopher’s nephew. However, it’s very hard to photograph because it’s tucked under the branches of an ancient yew tree which Owen Lloyd himself planted.
