Hosta heaven

LOVE a hosta- now got 4: bought 2 new ones today bought at a plant sale / coffee morning for Christian Aid. The two I have , have holes in the leaves ( slugs :/) so I’ve been researching how to keep these safe … without resorting to slug pellets. I’ve put gravel on top of the soil round the leaves, and sprayed them with garlic crushed in water.
If anyone has any other non chemical tips, please let me know !
