Sitting tight!

Well, it seems I was not altogether right when I posted a photo of this “abandoned” swans’ nest. Having checked with an expert (our son, an avid birder) the female does leave the nest for short periods to feed and stretch her legs wings. The eggs are sufficiently large as to retain heat quite well and they are reasonably well protected within the nest.
The chicken wire fence is a temporary barrier to protect the nest and eggs from inquisitive or hungry dogs and probably the odd misguided or rash human. The male in this case is very much the alpha male and is quite ready to protect his own!
Not sunny at all today, grey and clouded all day but mild and calm so a decent day for pottering about the garden.
