Lisbon day 2

Another late blip, because we just can’t stop talking! But today there has been a lot of walking too. Over 20,000 steps.

I don’t know which are the must visit places, but today we really enjoyed exploring the many interlinked streets in the old town, full of quirky shops and cafes. We started out, heading to a Lidl we’d seen was 26 minutes away, but enjoyed various detours - in particular a food/craft market in one of the squares, which made the journey longer.

Things we noticed of just the regular buildings were the pretty tiles decorating the outside of many. We did also go in a tile shop selling new and vintage tiles but passed on the tile museum - I’ve already been to one of those this week!!

Bought things for dinner in Lidl and a few breakfast bits. Then went back to the food market to buy something for lunch. I don’t thing we were overly impressed with our choices, but it was interesting to try something different. Lots of places selling bits of friend meat and sausage in a small tray with 2 tiny bits of bread. Karen enjoyed it but it was quite salty. Joanne and I had a bacon (Parma ham) and soft cheese sandwich in a big chunk of sourdough. We won’t be buying it again, but it was ok.

Then we took a very circuitous route back to the apartment visiting lots of other side streets and shops. It had been trying on and off to rain but was warm, then the sun came out before later raining again. It’s very hilly so we didn’t need coats, and dried quickly.

Once shopping was dropped off, we went back out in search of tourist info, then lots more exploring. At the front by the sea we saw this horse backed band flanked by police. Don’t know what they were about, but interesting. We continued along the river, then back inland up into the more hilly part. Not too hilly to walk though, but we did get wetter when it then rained more heavily.

Back to cook dinner, look at leaflets and plan our day to Sinatra. We’ve chosen a day organised tour. Not cheap but simpler for us and we know we won’t miss anything. That’s for Wednesday and tomorrow we plan to climb up to the castle.

Now bed!
