These yellow and white iris normally have just the slightest hint of lavender on those big petals, but every couple of years one of them will produce a stunning bright purple stripe like this. If there are two or three flowers on the stem, only one will have the stripe. If there are babies attached to the main bulb, their flowers will not have the stripe either. That’s all I know. It’s always a thrill to find one.
