Wise Words

An Alaska Native Interpretive Site (K'BEQ', footprints") displayed several plaques with words from the Elders. It was difficult to choose, but since I learned it was a matriarchal society, this was the best.


The Kenaitze Dena'ina Indians populated the area all along the Kenai River for over 1000 years, (probably more, but that's what is known for sure). Sqilantnuwas their name for what is now called Cooper Landing, a region rich in animals, fish, and plant life for sustaining their families.
