Fuente De and Potes

It had the possibility of being clear enough to enjoy the top of the cable car at Fuente De so we set off . Unfortunately, there were roadworks which held traffic up on the mountain road to Potes for 20 minutes plus at a time but we eventually arrived at Potes in sunshine- yay ! We loved Potes as it had a vibrant atmosphere ( obviously a big honeypot in Summer) and beautiful medieval buildings. We had a scrumptious cake and coffee after our sandwiches in the car . A wander around then on to somewhere I had been hoping to see for months .
The cable car ascended 750 metres up to an altitude of 1823 m in a few minutes! It was terrifying and wonderful! I chatted with lads from Cumbria Uni who were on a mountain leadership degree and trecking to a mountain hut for the night .
The views were breathtaking and clear ! But my biggest joy was finding a patch of gentians at the top as well as some orchids and other rare flowers.
The clear air and the peace was joyful. We were also mobbed by cheeky choughs !
After descending we then went on a nearly 3 hour journey on the scariest but magnificent mountain roads we have ever been on !
They climbed and climbed with incredible views for mile after mile - hairpin bend after hairpin bend !! An incredible experience- quite a few British motorcycles passed us .
Another joy were fields of Asturian wild daffodils at the top of the mountains and many beautiful wild flowers. Lots of vipers bugloss but I couldn’t photograph them .
I can’t convey what an outstanding journey it was !
