a lifetime burning

Staircase

A staircase in Porto’s museum of photography.

Formerly the prison during Salazar’s regime, the building has been repurposed but retains many of the prison gates, grills and bars.

There was a fascinating video display of photographs from the revolution of the captains 50 years ago that saw the end of the Salazar dictatorship.

In addition there is a marvellous collection of old cameras from the dawn of the age of film through to the rise of digital.
