Peat

Another beautiful day, I've been very lucky with the weather so far. Spent an hour this morning working in the peat hill, 'raising' the peats my brothers cut a few weeks ago. There's a wee video here of someone cutting peats - rectangular slices are dug out (using a special tool known as a tushker) and either stacked in a neat dyke or laid flat on the ground. When the peats are dry enough they're raised, i.e. built into small structures that expose their other, less dry side to the elements, so they dry out completely. I've added some more shots to my blipfolio so you can see the process better.

The back of my neck is sunburned. :-)
