Thursday 16 July 2009: Saasveld
At the entrance to the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University at the Saasveld Campus, George, this sign is to be found.
It has surely caused many a grin.
Just who is being spoken about?
Perhaps some lecturers, in moments of frustration, feel this way about some of their students.
With the campus surrounded by indigenous forest, there is a troop of about 30+ baboons that often roam and wander between the buildings, extensive lawns and sports fields. Most probably they are looking for anything that is edible. They are not aggressive, yet caution should always be taken not to corner them or to get too close. They are wild animals, after all.
These baboons are really a treat to look at when the frolick on the lawns, debug themselves and others, and just being silly.
They are an institution, having been on the campus and it's surrounds for many years.
Johann has his office on the campus grounds, but he has no ties with this Institution. Office space is merely rented here by the company he works for.
