Today is a new day...

Harris

We have had a brilliant day.

We arrived in Harris yesterday and followed the very, very narrow and very windy and very hilly road to where Mr Q had found us a place to stay. When we arrived the road which we faced to take us to our pitch was practically vertical. Our 'host' however was extremely enthusiastic and welcoming and assured us that we would manage to get our motorhome to its place. "Just go fast up the hill so that you don't skid and the wheels don't spin" was his advice!!

He was right though and we were rewarded (when we had recovered) with a stunning view over to Skye.

Today we have explored the Western part of Harris which is stunningly beautiful with beaches that can give Islay a run for its money. I was particularly impressed with a beach at Luskentyre which had turquoise water, beautiful sands and a background of ancient rocky mountains.

The west coast is in stark contrast to the rocky, lunar and I think, rather forbidding landscape of the east side of Harris. However as we returned to our perilous pitch I felt a warmth towards the rocky outcrops which surround us.

We have been lucky enough to have a fabulous hot and sunny day to enjoy the beaches and of course our trip to the Harris Tweed shop which just has to be done!

Tomorrow we look forward to more beaches and exploring and dinner (surf and turf platter, no less) which our host 'Tony' will cook and deliver to our motorhome!

Will let you know how it goes!
