Spirit of Schengen

On the way home this afternoon we noticed an aircraft making ready for approach to Prestwick Airport. Decided to stop for a quick Wings Over Prestwick blip as she looked much larger than the normal Ryanair flights.

Turned out she was a big bit bigger. The flight coming in was a Cargolux 747-400 on route from Seattle, the home of Boeing. A scheduled stop at Prestwick before heading off to Luxemburg later in the evening. This aircraft (LX-RCV) is named Spirit of Schengen.

The name is probably in reference to the Schengen Agreement signed on the 14 June 1985 which resulted in the creation of Europe's borderless Schengen Area in 1995. Made up of 26 European countries covering 400 million people it allows free movement of people as though it was one country. Ireland and the United Kingdom are currently opted out of the agreement.

I now have three of the planes in the fleet with her sisters on 9th May and 23rd May.

As always large is best, press L.
