Thursday 23 July 2009: Heidelberg
In the country town of Heidelberg, about 170km on the road to Cape Town, this majestic church building was blipped by Johann while attending a meeting there.
When he left for Heidelberg on Tuesday, he decided to go by bike and not to travel with friends, because it would give him the opportunity to return home earlier, should he want to.
However, he stayed till early this morning and arrived back home at lunchtime - wet, wet, wet, as he rode all the way in rainy weather, not to mention that it was icy as well.
With heated hand grips, the cold was kept at bay to some extent.
He also brought home a lovely image of the old Heidelberg Hotel which has been kept in very good condition.
These old towns are a treat as far as architecture and the remains of old buildings are concerned, a pity that one rarely takes the trouble to turn from the main road to go and have a look.
